Congo Ebola outbreak

Where things stand

The WHO says the response in Congo's northeast is falling behind transmission, with the virus spreading faster than any earlier outbreak. After it reached a sixth province, reported death tolls range from 2,000 to more than 2,100.

The Democratic Republic of Congo declared an Ebola outbreak in Ituri province on 15 May. It has since spread across 53 health zones in five provinces, though Ituri still accounts for the large majority of cases. Congolese authorities run the response and publish the case, death and contact-tracing figures.
